In the 1980’s when I was young and single, my good friend Melanie Vieux and I would frequently go to Capitola Beach to escape the hot summer days in the East Bay. Besides hanging out on the beach and shopping, our other favorite thing to do in Capitola was to go to Margaritaville. We would sit out on Margaritaville’s patio with a pitcher of margaritas, a basket of chips and salsa, and life was good.
Margaritaville has a dining room, bar, and the patio. The patio has always been my favorite place to sit. Next to the patio is a lagoon and across the lagoon is Monterey Bay and the colorful Mediterranean style rooms of the Capitola Venetian Hotel. There are usually ducks or seagulls in the lagoon.

It had been several years since I’d been to Capitola’s Margaritaville, so when my kids and their friends and I were in the area during spring break we stopped in for lunch. Margaritaville still looks basically the same and that a good time could still be had in the bar area.

During our visit, we sat out on the patio and enjoyed the view and beautiful weather. The kids had burgers and I had a shrimp taco. The food was pricey, but good. I’m looking forward to going back some day for a pitcher of margaritas and chips.
